FOODBANK GARDEN FETE

Posted on July 29, 2026

by Peter Martin, 52 Ethelburt Avenue
We were lucky enough to have good weather which was not overpoweringly hot. Partly through that, and the efforts of people delivering posters, leaflets etc., we had a very good turnout. Cakes, cream teas, Tombola and the many crowded stalls were very popular, and altogether we raised £2,600. This will be spent on fortnightly shopping which, along with offerings from HCERA neighbours are regularly delivered to “Thursdays Together” at St Alban’s, part of the Swaythling Parish. This outlet provides a friendly cup of tea, and advice if wanted, as well as a selection of food for the larder at home.
We worked out that, altogether, about 40 local people were involved in organising the Garden Fete. Thanks to the small committee, and also to the many, many people who helped in so very many ways. We also want to thank all the people who donated stuff to sell and the people who came along in number, to eat, buy and participate in the wonderful community that is ours. It is all appreciated. Thank you!
Peter Martin
