On the two semidetached houses 25 and 27 Stoneham Lane is a plaque with 1927 on it. These were the first two houses to be built on the estate. We are proposing to have some celebrations to mark this event. We are considering a number of suggestions. These include a centenary plaque on the estate, a centenary bench, a tea with some activities for children, an exhibition of documents and a visit to homes with original features.
In the beginning, back gardens were planted with apple trees and a proposal is to offer a gift of an apple tree in this centenary year. A new edition of Robert Williams’s book “Herbert Collins 1885-1975 ” is proposed, although this is a more long term aspiration.
