CRITTALL WINDOWS RENOVATION

Posted on March 21, 2026

Usually people are very keen to get rid of their Crittall windows but one resident has had them renovated. The refurbished original steel windows have now been reinstalled in a house on the top green in Ethelburt Avenue. They were out for quite a while, but the owners think it was worth the effort.

The metal frames were repaired, sand blasted, hot-tub galvanised, and powder coated in RAL 9001 (which was the closest match to the original Gardenia 10B15). The timber joinery to the frames was repaired, decayed sections of the oak cills replaced and repainted.

In this case all the single glazed panes were replaced with individual slimline double-glazed units puttied into the frames, which has also improved sound insulation. The owner reports that the windows now open and close like a dream and have been draught-stripped, the original handles and ironmongery retained and refurbished and security locks fitted.

The work of renovation was undertaken by Mike Honour Windows Limited,
