Our streets are much cleaner since dog owners have been obliged to remove their pet’s mess and failure to do so can mean an on-the-spot fine of £50. But there are still some irresponsible dog owners who think they can get away with it on our greens where children play. No doubt because the unmade road and footways make the offence less obvious, there is also a problem in Ethelburt Avenue. It is not nice to find dog’s mess a few feet from your front door. So if you are a culprit: please take it home!

Of course Residents’ Association members may  be entirely blameless and if so, we apologise for raising this matter here.

Although the Southampton Federation of Residents’ Associations has not had any public meeting recently, we are assured that it is alive and well with a membership of 41 residents’ associations. The committee has been meeting with council officials over its many concerns.

Ever watchful of how the Council spends “our” money, they have been concerned about the reversion to weekly collections from the green wheelie bins and among other things, the cost of employing staff to run all these Partnerships.

They are planning a big open meeting in March or April
